February 2002: Referendum issued regarding the future air or sea access. Options were to build an airport, make alternative arrangements for shipping or the replacement of the RMS in 2010.  1,577 votes were received for an airport and 626 for a ship for St. Helena.  Persons eligible to vote were St. Helenians on Ascension, Falkland Islands, and The RMS and of course on Island.

21st May 2002: Opening of the New Museum.

21st May 2002: Restoration of British Citizenship to St. Helenians.

14th March 2004: Announcement that St. Helena will get an Airport.

1st April 2004: Bank of St Helena came into operation.

14th August 2008: Major rock fall in Jamestown, causing severe damage to the Baptist Church, Manse and Alan Richards’ workshop. Fortunately there was no lost of life.

6th September 2008: Official opening of the Elderly Care Unit.

10th September 2008: Offshore Fishing vessel ‘Portzic’ scuttled at Lemon Valley.

9th November 2008: Announcement that St Helena’s airport negotiations will be put on " Pause"
