St Helena Island
Constantly caressed by the South East Trades and surrounded by the warm, temperate seas of the South Atlantic lies the island of St. Helena. With the nearest mainland being over 1000 miles to the East, she enjoys an environment that many would categorise as pollution free.
Ultimately St. Helena radiates an ambience of relaxation with a climate that has been described by many as “being the healthiest in the world”.
Accommodating all types of holiday-makers, St. Helena can offer you breathtaking scenery, a varied selection of walks ranging from a gentle stroll to the more arduous, a rich well documented historical background, an insight into our indigenous flora and fauna to name but a few. For those of you who prefer the aquatic experience, activities ranging from scuba-diving, water sports, dolphin and whale watching, around the island cruises, to a backbreaking day cranking in a 200lb tuna are all on offer.
St Helena is remote, as access is limited to a single purpose built cargo/passenger vessel with occasional yachts and cruise ships visiting at irregular intervals. One would be forgiven for thinking this has affected the island adversely; it hasn’t. St Helena has evolved into a unique paradise because of her isolation, a paradise that can only be fully comprehended when experienced.
There are negotiations taking place for St. Helena to have improved access in the form of an airport. How this will affect the islands charm remains a mystery...
